Russ “Mr Wizard” Matijevich is the owner and chief executive of Matijevich International LLC, a small Veteran-owned business primarily focused on providing advisory and director services specializing in leadership, strategy, advanced technology, national security, and mission design.
Russ brings over 35 years of deep background expertise in aerospace, aviation and maritime operations, including extensive experience working with the U.S. Departments of Defense, State, Homeland Security, and Commerce, the US Intelligence Community, NASA, the UK Ministry of Defense, and the Australian Department of Defense. Key roles during his military career include Chief of Operations within the National Reconnaissance Office, Chief Engineer for the Transformational Communications Satellite (TSAT) space segment, and the Deputy Director, Space Policy, within the Office of the Secretary of Defense.
Since his retirement from active duty in 2011, Russ founded Matijevich International and has also served in key executive positions with Northrop Grumman, HawkEye 360, BAE Systems, and most recently as the Chief Innovation Officer for Airbus US Space & Defense, Inc., where he provided technical vision and guidance to multiple lines of business resulting in the highest contract win-rate in Airbus U.S. history.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace engineering from Mississippi State University and a Master of Science degree in astronautical engineering from West Coast University. An accomplished competitive sailboat racer and captain, he is also an award-winning photographer and enjoys woodworking, songwriting, and playing his guitar.


Capt Russ began sailing in 1984 and has been power boating even longer. With over 8,000 offshore miles under his keel, he is a seasoned maritime professional ready to transport your power or sailboat from point A to point B or captain your next charter adventure. He also provides speaking engagements on preparations and considerations for going offshore.
